Requiem for Suruç
This work, consisting of five photographs and a video performance, is dedicated to the 33 young people killed in an attack by ISIS in the Suruç district of Şanlıurfa (southeastern of Turkey) on 20th July 2015. This work, selected for Akbank Sanat Contemporary Art and Curatorship Program Exhibition Project in 2023, is a requiem. In the morning hours, a suicide bomber destroyed a group of socialist youth who were taking toys to children in the ISIS-controlled Rojava region. Contrary to popular belief, these young people didn't go to be heroes and if they had lived, they would have gone to school, laughed, had fun and even made love in the big cities of Turkey (Please contact the artist for video performance.)
